National Core Indicators

People-driven data to promote positive change

HSRI collaborates with The National Association of State Directors of Developmental Disabilities Services (NASDDDS) on National Core Indicators – Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (NCI-IDD) – a national effort to measure and improve the performance of public developmental disabilities agencies.

With our partners, ADvancing States, the National Core Indicators – Aging and Disabilities (NCI-AD) initiative is designed to support states’ interest in assessing the performance of their programs and delivery systems in order to improve services for older adults and individuals with physical disabilities.

What are National Core Indicators?

“Core indicators” are standard measures used across states to learn about the outcomes of services provided to individuals and families. Core indicators address key areas of concern including service planning, rights, community inclusion, choice, health and care coordination, safety, and relationships.

Assessing outcomes through NCI became a critical element of our continuous quality improvement strategy. The value of such a robust national data set is immeasurable and supported person-centered systems change in South Dakota, ensuring people were achieving personal outcomes.
